Visit the official FOUND site and their myspace page.

FOUND are Ziggy Campbell, Tommy Perman, Kev Sim, Alan Stockdale and Gavin Sutherland. Ziggy, Kev and Tommy met while studying art in the cold granite city of Aberdeen. Since 2001 they have collaborated on various audio and visual art projects. Though they are occasionally drawn back to the gallery environment, the start of 2005 signalled a new beginning as they enlisted the musical abilities of Gavin Sutherland and decided it was high time they formed a pop band.Recently Mr Alan Stockdale has joined in on the fun and is playing live drums and percussion.

Over the past 12 months the band have enjoyed a rapid rise to success. They have played gigs across the UK, recorded exclusive radio sessions for BBC Radio Scotland, Radio Magnetic and The Selector and made a debut TV appearance on BBC Scotland’s ‘The Music Show’. MTV Europe have just snapped up the video for ‘Mullokian’ ( a collaboration with young Edinburgh animator Joe Richardson) and they have just recorded a live session for a major US radio station in the legendary ‘Beatles Studio’ at Abbey Road.

Their much celebrated performances have drawn comparisons to The Beta Band, Tortoise and Tom Waits. From the outset it was considered a necessity that the music being produced by the quartet could translate effectively to a live audience. This desire, coupled with the band’s suspicion of, and general feeling of boredom towards, the “laptop set”, pushed them to create an ever evolving live show which combines new technology with their extensive collection of acoustic instruments.

While FOUND are always keen to experiment and push themselves in new directions, their music has a strong grounding in melody and structure. It’s not often the terms accessible and forward-thinking sit happily together but in the world of FOUND they are the definition of what Pop music should be.

DEE J A’LA FU

North, way north went a kid by the name of Dee J A’la Fu. Learning his trade and reaching such diverse places as California, Montenegro, London, Israel, Australia, Scotland, N.Y.C. and Hawaii, A’La Fu has performed, recorded and released material since ‘93. Inspired early on by touring, supporting and sharing the stage with the likes of Gil Scott Heron, Schooly D, DJ Krush and De La Soul, he soon became involved in numerous projects from DJ workshops, to guest spots on radio shows such as Ninja Tune’s ‘Solid Steel’, the BBC’s Selector/World Service programme and their digital off-shoot station 1 Xtra. Mr. Fu has also illustrated the art of DJing via the wonder of television alongside Hip-Hop pioneer/originator DJ Kool Herc, competed against the Scratch Perverts at the first ever DMC Team Finals and later performed for the Perverts at 2002’s Glastonbury festival.

Recent runnings have included close work with the Big Dada / Ninja Tune record labels, remix duties for Coldcut and Saul Williams, a contribution to Big Dada’s ‘Extra Yard’ compilation and of course more Dj’ing, including live stints with Roots Manuva, New Flesh, Infinite Livez and plenty of worldwide touring shenanigans with New York’s Mike Ladd. He’s also found time to turn his well received series of ‘Radio Skool’ mix CD’s into a monthly club/live showcase, entertaining special guests as diverse as Prince Paul, Andy Votel, Roots Manuva, The Sugarhill Gang and Keb Darge.

DON KAZEK

Originally from Polska but born in a castle in Stirling, the Don studied classical and jazz guitar from the tender age of eight. At ten he was forced to study formal composition and orchestration by his mad opera-singing grandmother. Having finally escaped the clutches of the eccentric older lady, he found himself drawn to electrical engineering before returning to his first love – the study of music.

After teaching guitar for a number of years, he eventually moved on to providing soundtracks for numerous short features and animation projects before embarking on his current labour of love . . . his first album proper under the We Yo Nee banner.

Vin Landers, a.k.a. Gav “Fudge Fingas” Sutherland, is a multi instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, producer and sometime disc jockey who has been immersed in music from a very young and tender age. Now aging rapidly, his current incarnation as Mr.Landers is an attempt to collate all his experience of different musical forms into one all encompassing sound.

From early songs written as young as six years old to session playing for many of the towns’ clubland producers and live outfits ; solo productions, ivory tinklings and remixes for various local and worldwide record labels ; and the best part of a decade spent behind the counter at Underground Solush’n selling vinyls to the junkies ; all these endeavours have provided the inspiration for this direction.

In his own words, “The music I make seeks to bring the spontaneity of live playing to the more rigid production techniques, to bring together all styles in the one place and confront history and future on an equal basis. For just as each person writes their own history to suit, so too do we make our own future… it’s as much down to the individual as it is to the many.”

No, I don’t know what he means either.

Bobby Perman AKA S-Type (formally Stereo Type*) has been making music in different forms for most of his 18 years. Born and Bred in Edinburgh, the young producer got his first drum kit for his 9th birthday and has been in many bands playing all sorts. After getting Cubase and a computer (influenced by his older brothers) when he was 15 he began messing with samples and trying to imitate his favourite producers at the time.

He started uploading his beats on the net for fellow artists to comment on, this led to collaborating with MCs from different parts of the UK and even US rappers. Although he had improved having had a couple of years of experience making Hip Hop on Cubase, he clubbed together with his brother, Tommy (AKA Esc) and bought an MPC from a friend of a friend (even though Bobby hogged it in his room for most of the time).

In late 2003, the two brothers decided to set up Surface Pressure Records – a platform to put out their own and their friend’s music. ‘Soul For Your Stereo’ featuring a Detroit MC by the name of Finale, with the B-Side “Spin” alongside East London rapper Logan, was set to be S-Type and Surface Pressure’s debut release. The 12” also features a dirty electronic Detroit style remix of “Soul…” by Sonar Kollectiv’s Dimlite. Due to issues that anyone trying to run an independent label will face, the release date was pushed back and We Yo Nee’s 7” became the first release.

‘Soul For Your Stereo’ and it’s remix have received lots of support from European radio DJs, leading to new contacts. S-Type and Esc are set to do a 3-show tour in November 2004, performing with Dimlite across Switzerland. There is also talk of going to Paris in 2005 to hook up with Astro Lab Recordings, an independent label who are putting out a small compilation in February 2005, featuring an exclusive S-Type track. He is currently concentrating on DJing and production and collaborating with MCs such as Logan and Lowkey from London, Loki from Washington/Philly, Evets from Sheffield and has many other collaborations in the pipeline.

*changed after unreasonable emails of legal threats, by a certain European producer with a similar name
