‘Soul For Your Stereo’ is the debut release from Edinburgh-based producer, S-Type (Bobby Perman to his mum). Frighteningly, he is only 18 years of age and already proving himself to be a highly accomplished musician and producer.

A solid mid-tempo true-school anthem in-the-making, ‘Soul For Your Stereo’ boasts the ridiculous mic talents of Detroit’s Finale and some turntable finesse from Dee J A’La Fu, over some tighter than tight infectious jazz-loop trickery from our man S-Type.

A member of the Shamanwork family (other members include MF Doom, Scienz Of Life and Lacks), Finale has an impressive history of touring and performing with such luminaries as Slum Village, Q-Bert and Jeru the Damaja. Mr. A’La Fu is Big Dada Records tour DJ, a title which in the last 12 months has seen him play everywhere from Australia to Azerbaijan via the UK, Europe and America in the company of Mike Ladd and the Majesticons, Roots Manuva and others.

The treats don’t stop here though… The 12” comes furnished with some extra special remix hi-jinks from Dimlite (whose phenomenal ‘a/dd’ EP for Sonar Kollectiv floored us in 2003) and the tight piano-lead ‘Spin’ which features East London’s Logan on microphone duty. The video for ‘Spin’ is currently play-listed on Channel U.

‘Soul For Your Stereo’ is currently enjoying wide spread radio play in Europe and the US. It’s already made the playlists of amongst others; Excalibah (1xtra), Joseph Malik (Compost), Michael Rutten (Compost/Soul Patrol), Dirk Rumpff (OFFtrack – Munich).

Reviews

Not only does Scot-hopper S-Type knock out an incredible hip hop / jazz record with ‘Soul For Your Stereo’, he enlists Sonar Kollektiv big wig Dimlite to conjure up a deeper than deep remix too. It’s all about flutes and keys galore with slick microphone technique from MC Finale, and top turntable trickery courtesy of Dee J A’La Fu (who else!?). Such quality from a 17 year old on his debut release should strike fear into the hearts of producers across the globe.
